The F - Side Table: A Fusion of Industrial Design and Natural Beauty

Designed by Buzao, this award-winning table combines modern aesthetics with the raw allure of lava stone.

The inspiration for the F - Side Table came from Buzao's fascination with lava stone. The design team began working with this material in 2016, employing modern stone processing techniques. However, they soon realized the raw, unprocessed state of lava stone offered a dynamic aesthetic that evoked images of flowing lava and solidification. This led to the creation of a side table design that features a stone fixed under an F clip, a concept that embodies the idea of retaining the original state of the material.

The F - Side Table is a paradoxical piece of furniture, perfectly suited for a sofa or chair. It showcases the different states of lava stone in one design, combining artificial aesthetics with natural beauty. The F clip, borrowed from industrial stool design, is counterbalanced by a primitive lava stone from nature, ensuring the table remains firm. This juxtaposition of the modern and the primitive is what sets this design apart.

The realization of this design was made possible through the use of mature stone processing techniques for the tabletop and the natural shape of the lava stone for the base. The design team chose to use the side material of blasting during the mining of lava stone to ensure a stable supply and maximize production. The result is an exquisite product that combines modern design with natural elements.

The F - Side Table measures 330mm in width, 330mm in depth, and 500mm in height. It features a black, brass, and natural stone color scheme, reflecting the volcanic origins of the lava stone. The table requires the user to clip the natural volcanic stone themselves to make the table firm, adding an interactive element to the design.

This project was conceived in October 2016 in China and entered the market a year later. The choice of volcanic stone as the main material was driven by a desire to showcase the natural texture of lava stone, expressing a free and initial state that is close to nature. The F - Side Table is a testament to Buzao's commitment to pushing the boundaries of design, combining mechanical aesthetics with natural beauty in a way that is both innovative and visually stunning.
